Lord Biro's: 'Armageddon Art Show'
An artistic response to the Holocaust International Cartoon Exhibition in Tehran
The Armageddon Art Show was on exhibition at: 24, West End Arcade, Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham, and ended on Monday 11 September 2006.
The Gun City Gallery decided to respond to the satirical cartoon exhibition attacking the Jews and the Holocaust which is being co-ordinated by the Iran House of Cartoons in Tehran at the Palestine Contemporary Art Museum, 14 August - 13 September.
The organisers staged the exhibition because of the Danish cartoon controversy earlier this year when some of the Western media (not the British) published cartoons showing Mohammed's likeness which is forbidden by Islam, though this is open to dispute by some Islamic scholars.
In response to all of this the Gallery decided to put together an art installation titled:
"Butch" Presley versus the Four Cross-Dressers of the Apocalypse"
The art installation features a female dummy dressed in a red Elvis Jump Suit pushing a shopping trolley. On the trolley is a white rocket pointing at a large poster on the wall. The poster contains images of Bush, Blair, Bin Laden and the President of Iran, i.e.
"Foxy" "Mona Bliar", "The Bearded Bad Lady", "Hezbolly Molly".
On the side of the rocket is written the slogan
"Oi Girls, Get Your Big Mouths Round This"
To the left of the poster is a cartoon portrait of Jesus and Mahomet titled "Disgusted of Nazareth and Cheesed- off Mahomet".
